Work, Capture Time From Anywhere

Heading into 2023, law firms adopted policies allowing their employees to return to the office, work from home, or a combination of both. Optimism accompanied these policies, intended as they were to boost revenue by allowing employees to work where they felt most productive. Research indicates that these policies have been successful. Demand for legal services has returned to pre-pandemic levels and revenue for firms of all sizes is up. (See, 2023 Clio Trends Report, https://www.clio.com/resources/legal-trends/2023- report/). Yet one of the challenges that predates the pandemic persists. Firms continue to struggle with how to capture all or at least a majority of their employees’ billable time. In 2019, according to the ABA, lawyers in private practice billed on average about 2.5 hours per day. 2020, 2021, and 2022 weren't much better, with lawyers capturing only around 3 hours per day. ...

Moving to a software-as-a-service model offers efficiency and cost savings, with more functionality and software integration options. The new Time Miner also marks a shift from serving individual attorneys to serving law firms. You do your calls and emails, let Time Miner do the billing.

By 7 a.m. most mornings, I have read, responded to, or otherwise dealt with dozens of work emails. Sometimes more than that, all from my iPhone while drinking coffee and occasionally checking Twitter. Many of you can probably relate. While it can feel good to clear your inbox and be responsive, it can also feel like you've only added to your workload because you have to go back and create time entries for all your communications. Either that, or not get credit for your work. Time Miner was developed with this scenario in mind. By connecting Time Miner to your RingCentral and Outlook 365 account, you do not have to worry about billing for calls, texts or emails as you go, or scrolling through your phone looking for billable time. At the touch of a button, Time Miner goes back, finds billable communications, and creates time entries for you. Then it emails a detailed timesheet. Clio users ...

Better Tech, Tools for Delivery of Legal Services

Heading into 2022, lawyers and law firms everywhere were optimistic about things “getting back to normal.”  Returning to their offices and the on-prem tech and tools they sorely missed, the feeling for many was one of relief.    Yet for some, particularly those for whom WFH was a boon to their productivity, the feeling was more like opportunity. These lawyers understood that the disruption caused by the pandemic was not something to be endured, but embraced. They recognized that a new normal had materialized, one which offered better tech and tools for the delivery of legal services. More profitable ones, too.   In 2019, lawyers in private practice billed, on average, about 2.5 hours per day. (See, 2019 Clio Trends Report, https://www.clio.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/2019-Legal-Trends-Report.pdf.)   2020 and 2021 weren't much better, with lawyers capturing only around 31% of their bil ...

Work Remotely, Capture Revenue Automatically

Once a convenience, the ability to work remotely has become a necessity. And while many employees have a computer, laptop or tablet they can work from, they do not have access to their office phone system. This forces employees to use their mobile phones and personal numbers for work. Employers, particularly in the professional services sector, are receiving pushback. Attorneys especially prefer their clients not have their personal numbers and the 24/7 access that provides.    RingCentral, a leading provider of VoIP Services to the legal and professional services industry, solves the issue. RingCentral’s cloud-based platform allows employees to take the office phone system wherever they go. Accessible by an app, RingCentral enables employees to make and take work calls and text with clients from their work numbers regardless of physical location. This meets the employers’ goal of remote ...
